Hi I’m Rachel! I’m a child of the Most High God and the apple of his eye. That’s my true identity!
I am also a: (listed in order they occurred in my life -daughter, sister, wife, teacher, mother, worship leader, speaker, author and blogger.)
I’ve been talking from the moment words came out of my mouth. When I was younger my father used to ask me, “Rachel are you saying something or are you just talking?” That has been a question that has impacted my life greatly. I found out, many years later, that my Dad said that because he was also asked, “Richard are you saying something or are you just talking?” by his uncle.
I’m married to Michael who is a fabulous person and my forerunner in life and ministry. He is a “Steady Eddie” and I’m the flighty one. We make a really great combo and I’m grateful for our years together. We met in our teens. We are both Iowans originally and proud of it!
We have three fabulous children Michael, Andrew and Grace and one daughter-in-love Amy who is married to our oldest, Michael. Yep, we are empty nesters. They’re all grown now working and doing their thing. We are so proud of them.
I would drop any task like a hot potato when asked to spend time with people. I delight in relationships. That’s my sweet spot. I enjoy sipping a cup of tea or coffee with a friend or mentee. Just talking about nothing or deep somethings in a cute coffee shop or in the loft of my home qualifies as, “day made!”
I’m the fourth girl, the baby in my family of origin. I LOVE to be with my parents, my sisters or the whole family. When we all get together it’s loud and silly. There is a great deal of story-telling and gesturing going on. We often have to hang on, listen patiently and even interpret because the person telling the story is laughing too hard to finish their thought. We nod our heads as they laugh through the sentences to the story’s ending.
Another one of my favorite pass times is walking…alone or with a friend. I delight in prayer walks. It’s just talking to God like he’s on the walk with us, because he is.
You may find me in the loft area of my home dancing and singing my heart out to worship music. Man, I can’t get enough of anointed worship sets! I get so worked up. Afterwards, I’m all sweaty like I’ve attended an aerobics class.
I also love to read the word and listen to sermons. Seriously, it’s a great use of my time.
What else? Oh, yeah! I’m thrilled with the hunt so I like to go to thrift store to find the one item I’m convinced NO ONE else saw. I get a real kick out of things with the tags still on or just being able to use an item or a different purpose from what one might expect.
Jill Miller inspires audiences with her music and with her raw and transparent real-life stories of how she has overcome an unwanted divorce, journeyed through infertility and adoption, and has survived and thrived in her continuing journey of faith.
Everyone hasn’t necessarily experienced the same struggles, but Jill’s music and her message are relatable and encourage women and men who are dealing with their own issues, large or small.
As a recording and performance artist, Jill has performed at Nashville’s world-famous Bluebird Cafe, she has opened for the legendary Loretta Lynn and Brian Littrell of the Backstreet Boys, she has performed with NewSong, and she has had the honor of performing the national anthem on stage with President George W. Bush.
Jill’s musical sound has been described as a sophisticated crossroads between Francesca Battistelli’s gritty, velvet clad vocals and the urban pop sounds of Amy Grant. Jill’s uninhibited emotions authenticate her lyrics and captivate her audience. She has released four albums (so far!) and her music is played on radio nationwide.
Event planners’ lives are made easier with Jill Miller on the program for music and message – she excels at both. Experiencing Jill on stage is like spending the perfect summer evening on the porch with your best friend, where secret joys and sorrows are shared. Jill’s willingness to be vulnerable and open about her own life draws people into the warm embrace of her music and her stories. It is her passionate hope that others experience Christ in a whole new way and experience joy and peace no matter what their circumstance.
Jill says, “I want people to leave my shows with the knowledge that God loves them and is with them, no matter what their situation is. I want my audience to feel like they’ve met a friend along their journey.”
Jill is a member of the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI) and has served as regional workshop coordinator for NSAI and founded a new NSAI chapter in her home town. Jill was a top-five finalist for 2008 Best Country Artist of the Year on IndieHeaven, a website for independent Christian artist. In 2008 Jill was named “Woman of the Year” in honor of her volunteer work in her community
